Amy W. Spain

Partner

Amy Spain is a dedicated advocate who focuses her practice on all aspects of family law litigation to include divorce, equitable distribution of assets, spousal and child support determinations and modifications, child custody and visitation matters, and negotiating and drafting prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Her practice also includes appellate advocacy.

Amy’s practice is devoted to helping her clients navigate through family law matters, and she works closely with clients to understand the client’s goals and to ensure that the client is well informed and engaged in every phase of their case.

Amy is known for her thorough preparation, tenacity, and unwavering dedication to her clients. While she litigates regularly, she works to discretely and efficiently resolve cases outside of court using creative and effective settlement strategies that maximize her client’s results. If a private settlement is not possible, she represents clients at all stages of litigation from trial through the appellate process. She regularly works alongside wealth managers, accountants, business valuators, and trusts and estates attorneys to ensure that her client’s assets are protected and that all strategies are designed to maximize her client’s future financial circumstances.

Amy is included in the Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Lawyers List for Divorce and Family Law. She has been honored by Best Lawyers as One to Watch since 2021 and Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Washington, DC and Virginia since 2022.

Amy received her B.A. in English and Communications with a focus on Professional Writing from Virginia Tech, and she earned her J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law.
